Bruges from Zeebrugge: Cruise Shuttle and Shore-Day Planning
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
For most cruise passengers, the return shuttle from Zeebrugge to Bruges is the simplest independent option. It costs €30 and has a 4.6 rating from 4,660 reviews. The service description promises buses about every 30 minutes and a drop-off a short walk from central Bruges.
What the ticket solves
Zeebrugge is Bruges’ seaport, not the historic centre. The shuttle removes the need to combine port transport, a station and a local connection. Cruise Express states that outbound buses start when passengers disembark and operate at roughly 30-minute intervals until around noon; return buses also run at intervals adjusted to ship departure times.
This flexibility is the main advantage over a fixed excursion. You choose how long to spend in Bruges and can return earlier if the weather turns or the centre feels crowded. The disadvantage is that this is transport, not a guided tour: your sightseeing, tickets and route through Bruges are separate.
Protect the return to your ship
Read the confirmation for your exact pickup point and last suitable return. “Every 30 minutes” is not permission to take the final possible bus. Boarding, traffic and walking back through the terminal all consume time. Use the ship’s all-aboard time rather than its sailing time, and take an earlier shuttle than the theoretical last one.
The service is intended for cruise ships, not ordinary ferry passengers. Ship calls can change, so check that your vessel and date are covered before buying. If mobility assistance or a child seat matters, ask the operator before payment; the short tour summary does not promise either.
A realistic day in Bruges
From the central drop-off, keep a compact loop: Markt and Burg first, then either a 30-minute canal trip or one museum, followed by lunch. Trying to combine the Belfry, several museums, a long lunch and shopping creates unnecessary return risk. Canal tickets for individual visitors are bought at the landing stage and queues are possible.
If you want commentary from the port, compare a guided shore excursion instead. If you want maximum freedom and can navigate the centre yourself, the shuttle is usually enough.
Our recommendation
Book the €30 return cruise shuttle, note the return stop before leaving it, and plan to be back at Zeebrugge with a generous margin. Browse guided alternatives on our day trips and transfers page.
