Why us

A comparison, not a brochure

We don’t sell anything ourselves – which is why we can write down the drawbacks too.

The canals are not a hop-on hop-off route

Public canal boats follow one 30-minute route without stops. Individual tickets are sold at the five landing stages; guided packages can combine the boat with a walk or tasting.

Honest travel times

The direct train from Brussels averages 1 hour 4 minutes; Ghent is about 22 minutes by train. Bruges itself has no sea beach: Zeebrugge is the coastal district reached separately.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a Bruges canal boat online?

Individual public-boat tickets are sold only at the five landing stages. The boats follow the same 30-minute route without stops. Online offers are usually packages that combine a guided walk, tasting or transfer with a canal trip.

Does Bruges have a beach?

The historic centre has canals, not a sea beach. Zeebrugge is Bruges’ coastal district and has a wide sandy beach, harbour and coastal-tram stops. Treat it as a separate outing rather than something beside the Markt.

How long is the train from Brussels to Bruges?

SNCB/NMBS gives an average direct journey time of 1 hour 4 minutes. Ghent to Bruges is about 22 minutes. Check the live planner for works and the exact train you intend to take.

Is the Belfry accessible by lift?

No. The observation deck is reached by 366 steps and there is no lift. The City Halls below are accessible, and Visit Bruges publishes a detailed accessible route through the historic centre.

Is Bruges only a day-trip destination?

You can cover the Markt, Burg and a canal trip in a day, but that leaves little time for the Flemish Primitives, breweries, workshops or quieter evenings. An overnight stay changes the pace once day visitors have left.

What is Bruges best known for?

Its UNESCO-listed medieval centre, canals, brick Gothic skyline and Flemish Primitive art are the core sights. Bookable activities add guided walks, chocolate and waffle workshops, beer tastings, museum tickets and battlefield day trips.
